Plant hormone refers to some trace organic substances that are synthesized in plants and transported from the place where they are produced to other places and have significant effects on growth and development. It is also called plant natural hormone or plant endogenous hormone. Auxins, gibberellins, cytokinins, abscisic acid and ethylene are collectively referred to as five "classic" plant hormones. In 1998, at the 16th Congress of the International Society of Plant Growth Substances, brassinosteroids, jasmonates and salicylates were added to the list of plant hormones. Subsequently, polyamines and some peptides were also accepted as plant hormones. Recently unipodolactone and nitric oxide have also been nominated as plant hormones. These plant hormones discovered after the "classical" plant hormones are collectively referred to as non "classical" plant hormones.
